Cool off in our French Quarter courtyard oasis

Sip & Soak: Classic New Orleans Cocktails by the Pool

At Audubon Cottages, experience the perfect blend of New Orleans charm and relaxation. Our historic saltwater pool—believed to be the oldest in the French Quarter—sits in a lush, shaded courtyard, creating an intimate urban oasis. Just steps from iconic bars and restaurants, guests can enjoy poolside favorites like daiquiris, Hurricanes, or frozen Irish coffees. Whether escaping the Louisiana heat or savoring the city’s signature cocktails, our Dauphine Street location offers the ideal setting to sip, soak, and unwind in true New Orleans style.

Grasshopper at Tujague’s

Sip New Orleans’ famous minty cocktail, the Grasshopper, poolside in our French Quarter hotel’s courtyard inspired by John James Audubon’s work. A seven-minute walk from our cottage suite hotel, guests can visit the famous French Quarter restaurant and bar, Tujague’s, and order their original New Orleans Grasshopper to go. Tujague’s former owner, Philibert Guichet, invented the Grasshopper in New Orleans in 1918. The combination of crème de menthe, crème de cacao, and heavy cream makes the perfect cooling cocktail for warm days by our pool.

Hurricane from Pat O’Brien’s

The only hurricane we welcome in New Orleans is the infamous cocktail from Pat O’Brien’s, a popular restaurant and bar three blocks from our French Quarter hotel, the Audubon Cottages on Dauphine Street. In the 1940s, to sell his surplus of rum, Pat O’Brien concocted the New Orleans’ classic Hurricane cocktail with a heavy amount of rum, citrus juice, passion fruit syrup, and grenadine. Hurricanes are a fruity, sweet, and robust New Orleans cocktail — something poolside dwellers crave during a summer in the French Quarter.

Mint Julep from Old Absinthe House

Another perfect poolside minty cocktail home to New Orleans’ French Quarter is the Mint Julep from Old Absinthe House, a five-minute walk from our hotel, the Audubon Cottages on Dauphine Street. Try the minty cocktail made of mint, powdered sugar, water, and bourbon in a frosted glass or a to-go cup poolside in our New Orleans hotel’s courtyard. Either way, the Mint Julep is the go-to cocktail to beat the summer heat in New Orleans.

Frozen Daiquiri from Big Easy Daiquiris

While snowballs are a popular family-friendly treat for poolside summers in New Orleans’ French Quarter, daiquiris reign supreme for our of-age hotel guests. These New Orleans spiked, frozen drinks traditionally contain fresh fruit or flavored syrup and a liquor concoction. Big Easy Daiquiris, one block from our Dauphine Street hotel, has over 15 daiquiri flavors for hotel guests to choose from for their poolside session in our New Orleans courtyard. Our hotel guest favorites include the 190 Antifreeze, Hurricane, and Pina Colada. The massive fleur de lis-shaped cups the bartenders use to serve the daiquiris make great souvenirs for our hotel guests.

Frozen Irish Coffee from Erin Rose

One of New Orleans’ favorite frozen cocktails is at Erin Rose, just two blocks from our French Quarter hotel, the Audubon Cottages on Dauphine Street. The Frozen Irish Coffee is a caffeinated concoction made of Irish whiskey, frozen coffee, coffee beans, chocolate liquor, and vanilla ice cream. Erin Rose’s Frozen Irish Coffee has been a New Orleans favorite for years and remains a staple among our poolside guests. Our hotel guests frequently venture down the street to get a famous spiked Frozen Irish Coffee to-go to enjoy poolside in our New Orleans hotel’s courtyard.
